Washington State Bill to Repeal Internal Combustion Engine Ban Fails to Meet Legislative Deadline

The Washington state legislature failed to pass SAN-supported legislation (H.B. 1183) to repeal the law tying the state to California’s motor vehicle emission standards. Under current law, sales of new gas- and diesel-powered vehicles will be banned starting in 2035. The SAN believes that Washington residents, not the government, should decide what vehicles are best for them and their families. The House Environment & Energy Committee failed to advance the bill prior to the required legislative deadline.

Thank you to everyone who voiced support for this bill.
