Virginia Bill to Allow Titling of Newer Imported Collector Vehicles Signed into Law

Success in Virginia! SAN-supported legislation (H.B. 1887) to allow the DMV to issue a title for an imported foreign-market vehicle manufactured 25 or more years ago was signed into law by Governor Ralph Northam. The new law will not require such vehicles to comply with current U.S. federal safety requirements. Current law only allows for a negotiable title to be issued to such vehicles manufactured prior to 1968.

This new law allows greater flexibility in titling newer imported foreign-market collector vehicles in the state of Virginia. It also acknowledges that newer foreign-market vehicles are overwhelmingly well-maintained, infrequently driven and are becoming valued collectors’ items among the automotive community. It goes into effect July 1st, 2021.
