South Carolina Legislature Adjourns

The South Carolina legislature failed to pass SAN-supported legislation (H. 3680) to designate the automotive hobby as the official family-friendly pastime of the state, specifically the “restoration, exhibition, showing, and enjoyment of classic and antique motor vehicles.” The House Committee on Education and Public Works failed to advance the bill prior to adjournment.

While South Carolina’s proposal was symbolic in nature and unlikely to be considered for passage, the support by elected officials in the state to raise awareness for our hobby is encouraging. Thankfully, federal lawmakers in the U.S. Congress have helped launch the annual holiday Collector Car Appreciation Day (CCAD) by introducing resolutions each year at the SAN’s request. Similar in spirit, this summer’s national celebration will include a wide range of automotive festivities—both in-person and web-based—honoring the classics of the past and the future. Thank you to everyone who voiced support for this effort.
