New Jersey Bill to Extend Emissions Inspection Waiver For Newer Cars Signed Into Law

Legislation (S.B. 2090) in the New Jersey State Legislature to extend the emissions inspection exemption to vehicles 5 model years old or newer has been signed into law by Governor Chris Christie.  Current law exempts vehicles that are 4 model years old or newer.  New Jersey also exempts historic (at least 25 years old) and collector (driven no more than 3,000 miles per year and insured for limited use) vehicles from emissions testing.    The new law acknowledges the relatively minimal environmental impact of the vehicles targeted for this exemption and that it is senseless to test newer vehicles, the results of which demonstrate no significant air quality benefits.

On behalf of the SEMA Action Network, congratulations and thanks to all who participated in supporting this bill.
