  • S.F. 194 would save money, conserve resources and bring Iowa in line with other states that have moved to a single plate requirement.

  • S.F. 194 would protect the aesthetic contours of collector cars and relieve vehicle owners of the burden of having to create mounting holes on some original bumpers.

Overview: Legislation (S.F. 194) has been reintroduced in Iowa to require the issuance of only a single license plate for motor vehicles.  The bill requires that the single registration plate be attached on the rear of the vehicle.  Earlier this year, a bill (S.F. 125) to broaden the single plate allowance to include motor vehicles which are 30 model years old or older, and reconstructed or specially constructed vehicles built to resemble motor vehicles which are 30 model years old or older was also introduced.
