California Legislature Adopts SEMA Amendment Regarding "Whistle Tips"

Legislation that originally sought to repeal the California law that provides for the legal use of aftermarket exhaust systems that meet a 95-decibel limit was signed into law.  Under a SEMA amendment adopted by the Legislature, the new law only prohibits “whistle tips” attached to exhaust outlets that are designed for no other purpose but to create a shrieking sound.  In light of the SEMA amendment, the law will have no impact on the Bureau of Automotive Repair’s exhaust noise testing program.
