Alaska Legislature Adjourns

The Alaska legislature failed to pass SAN-supported legislation (H.B. 166) that would have allowed the display of only a single, rear-mounted license plate for all passenger vehicles. Under current law vehicles must display two license plates. The bill passed the House and the Senate Committee on Transportation but was not considered by the Senate Finance Committee prior to adjournment.

While we are disappointed this bill did not become law, the progress of H.B. 166 this session was very encouraging as it advanced farther than in previous sessions. Bills often take multiple sessions to pass the legislature before becoming law. The SAN is looking forward to working towards this goal again in the next legislative session. Accordingly, please encourage others to get involved now by signing-up with the SAN without cost or obligation.

Thank you to everyone who voiced support for this effort.
