RPM ACT UPDATE

Back to Driving Force, Spring 2017

Same Race, New Season

The start of the new Congress in 2017 means that the SEMA Action Network (SAN) is hitting the “reset button” on the “Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act.” The bill was reintroduced in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate in January as H.R. 350 and S. 203. Federal lawmakers are quickly adding their support by signing on as co-sponsors of the legislation. Approximately 120 are listed at the time of publication, thanks to more than 40,000 individual letters sent by racers, fans and the motorsports community.

Even if you have done so before, it is critical that you again send letters to your members of Congress in support of this proposal. It permanently clarifies that the Clean Air Act allows for the modification of motor vehicles for race-use only. The RPM Act also ensures that it is legal for businesses to produce, sell and install emissions related parts that racers use to compete.

Act now to help us get the bill passed into law this year. The RPM Act is the only solution that will ensure that this time-honored tradition and livelihood for millions of Americans will be preserved for generations to come.
