SEMA Action Network Posts Compilation of Exhaust Noise Laws By State

Now that most state legislatures have adjourned for the year and our Action Alerts requiring your attention have subsided, we invite you to continue visiting the SEMA Action Network’s (SAN) website at semaSAN.com to take advantage of the additional features available to you. Using the website, you can learn how to title and register hobby cars in each state, meet emissions standards, and fight unfair inoperable vehicle storage rules at the local level.

The SAN has now added to its resource arsenal a compilation of exhaust noise laws by state. This new tool includes a map to illustrate the states that have adopted measureable exhaust noise limits, the states that prohibit “excessive or unusual noise,” and the states that ban all modifications that lead to noise increases above the levels created by the factory-installed exhaust system.

SEMA SAN Strike Force

SEMA Action Network, Driving Force, August 2013
“Long Haulers” Karen (left) and David Thomas (right) show off their supercharged Chevrolet Corvette during the 2013 Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour. This vehicle is one in a long line of collector cars proudly owned by the family. In addition to ‘Vettes, their stable has included vintage Camaros and turbocharged Buick Regals.

Karen and David Thomas first bonded over a '69 Camaro SS and haven’t looked back. Soon after, the Greer, South Carolina-based couple welcomed daughter Kristen into their lives, who has become quite a “gearhead” herself. The family recently brought their passion to their alma mater, Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and started a car club: the Campus Cruisers. The club is hosting a kickoff event called “Art In Motion” on Saturday, September 28 in coordination with the Edelbrock Family Foundation. Honoring the 125 year history of the college, 125 concours-style cars will be featured on the back lawn as well as a cars and coffee event. Local colleges will compete for the coveted Campus Cruisers trophy. As they’ve done for many years now, the Thomas clan will be spreading the word about the SAN’s efforts and enlisting new faces into the network during their event. Best wishes for your upcoming event and thank you for inspiring others with your love of cars!
