Save Our Race Cars...and Their Parts!

The RPM Act Will Protect Use of Racing Tires, Wheels and More

The effort to enact the 2017 Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act into law is in full swing. At the time of publication, more than 50,000 individual letters have been sent by racers, fans and the motorsports community. The positive response by federal lawmakers continues to grow as a result. There are approximately 140 listed to date that are supporting the bill as co-sponsors of the legislation.

As you may know, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) contends that it is illegal to convert a motor vehicle into a dedicated racer if the emissions system is no longer in its original configuration. In addition to under-the-hood performance parts, the use of products such as racing tires, wheels, brakes, suspension equipment, roll cages and netting, spoilers, fuel gauges and sensors are threatened unless the RPM Act becomes law.

Why? It’s simple. Certain race parts will be unavailable to purchase and install if a car or motorcycle can’t be converted into a dedicated race vehicle. What can you do? Urge your members of Congress to support the RPM Act. It only takes a moment to support this critical legislation that protects Americans’ right to modify street vehicles into dedicated race cars and the industry’s right to sell the parts that enable racers to compete. Thank you for doing your part to protect our motorsports tradition and the right to race. Sign the letter to your lawmakers now at www.sema.org/RPM
