Members of the SEMA Action Network (SAN) were among an estimated 60,000 enthusiasts and participants that attended the 7th annual “King of the Hammers” in early February. It is the largest off-roading event held at the Johnson Valley California OHV Recreation Area.

Saving Johnson Valley's OHV Area

The SEMA Action Network (SAN) has been actively engaged in defending the Johnson Valley Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Recreation Area for future enthusiast use. The U.S. Marine Corps wants to expand its base at Twentynine Palms, California, in order to conduct large-scale training exercises for two months a year. The land has been controlled for decades by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), which provides special-use permits for various motorized recreational activities. Thanks to the efforts of SAN members, the message to save Johnson Valley and find a reasonable solution is being heard from coast to coast. Read more »

Legislation requiring the issuance of only a single license plate for motor vehicles is gaining traction in state legislatures around the country. SEMA Action Network (SAN) member Paul Witteman recently took action when Maryland introduced its own version of the bill. The Chevy Chase resident wrote his lawmakers about how the single plate attached at the rear would help protect the design features of collector cars and relieve vehicle owners of the burden of having to create mounting holes on some original and fabricated bumpers. Attached to his message were photos (above) of two examples from Paul’s pristine collection. To Paul’s surprise, a member of the legislature responded to this letter with compliments for the vehicles. While Maryland lawmakers have not yet decided on the fate of the bill, we applaud Paul’s efforts and those of his fellow enthusiasts in the Old Line state.
