Tanks, Trails and Treads

 

Much like the state legislatures, the offices of federal lawmakers are in similar flurries of activity. Fortunately, congressional measures impacting ethanol fuel, public lands and tire-pressure monitoring systems are in the works—each benefitting car enthusiasts. Thus, the following efforts are currently being supported by the SEMA Action Network (SAN):

 

E15 Ethanol: The SAN is working to enact legislation that would cap the amount of ethanol blended into gasoline at 10% and eliminate the Renewable Fuel Standard’s (RFS) corn-based ethanol requirement.

 

National Monuments: The U.S. Congress is soon expected to take up SAN-supported legislation to ensure public participation when a “National Monument” is established.

 

TPMS Study: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is going to conduct a public survey on the effectiveness of tire-pressure monitoring systems (TPMS).

SEMA SAN Strike Force

“I don't have many free nights and most weekends are spent at the Connecticut Street Rod Association (CSRA) clubhouse or a car show,” John Jarush explains. “But, the friendships I’ve made have been well worth the effort.” Sound familiar? Like many fellow SEMA Action Network (SAN) members, the Farmington, Connecticut resident has found his comfort within the car club community. He was referred to the (CSRA) in the late 1990s by a friend in the hobby and currently serves as the group’s president. In addition, he is the vice chairman of the Connecticut Council of Car Clubs (4C's) and president of the Summer Knights Car Club. Legislative advocacy on behalf of the hobby has subsequently followed. In fact, Jarush has testified in front of several state legislative committees on numerous bills.

 

John grew up around cars as his father was a service manager at Lipman Motors, an AMC dealer in Hartford. A ‘65 Ambassador purchased at age 15 was his first car. It led to a ’72 AMX purchased while in high school. After high school, he began racing NASCAR Modifieds throughout the Northeast. Jarush bought a ’40 Ford Tudor sedan while operating his own service station. A friend and he formed the Summer Knights Car Club in 1990. The club’s benefit car show, which began one year later, is a tradition that is now in its 24th year. With two young “car crazy” grandsons, the Jarush family is eager to begin car show season.
