Hawaii Introduces Legislation to Decrease Fees for Motor Vehicles

  • H.B. 355 decreases the annual registration fee from $45 to $25. 
  • H.B. 354 decreases the weight tax by 1 cent per pound and increases the flat rate for vehicles over 10,000 pounds from $300 to $150.
  • H.B. 56 exempts antique motor vehicles entirely from the weight tax.  

Overview: A series of bills have been introduced in Hawaii (H.B. 56, H.B. 354 and H.B. 355) to exempt antique motor vehicles from the state’s vehicle weight tax, reduce the weight tax for all other vehicles and decrease annual registration fees.  Each of these bills will be considered by the Transportation, Health and Finance Committee.
