What Do Clubs Do?

If you are wondering what you'll do once you're in a club, the answer is simple: whatever you want. Most clubs have regular monthly meetings, and most put on at least one car show each year. But you can certainly do more.

Do you want to arrange a cross-country jaunt to prove your metal's mettle? Get your fellow club members interested and you could have a full-blown convoy of car-related high jinks.

How about a "class" trip to a car museum? The museum in question may give the club a special rate or a private tour of its facilities. You could even consider displaying some of your members' cars in the museum. Wouldn't that be a real kick?

If you're less adventurous than all that, your club can always make its presence known at a local cruise night. Roll in with a few of the troops in formation, wearing your club jackets or shirts, and make a night of it. And hey, while you're there, why not try and recruit a few new members?

Then again, you may not be the park and wax type. Then what? Well, some car clubs do more than just get together and wax poetic, so to speak. Some clubs get together for a little friendly competition of one sort or another. If racing is in your blood, there are a multitude of clubs out there in which organized competition is the main focus. These clubs range from 10 guys who like to go to the drag strip on a Friday night for next week's bragging rights to national organizations like the Sports Car Club of America. The SCCA runs racing events all across the country--from slaloms in mall parking lots to all-out road course events with fans in the stands and everything.

There are even some clubs that compete without speed--or a track, for that matter. There are road rallies and poker runs sponsored by car clubs, and many are done for charity. So not only can you win for yourself, but you can do some good at the same time.

If you are a real down-and-dirty sort of soul, there are many clubs devoted to the off-road enthusiast. Mud boggers, sand dancers, rock crawlers and trail blazers all have a choice of clubs that are limited only by what sort of terrain is available geographically. With the booming truck market, these sort of clubs are popping up all over the place.
