Virginia Bill To Provide Emissions Inspection Exemption For Newer Cars Signed Into Law

SAN-supported Virginia legislation to exempt newer motor vehicles from the state’s mandatory biennial emissions inspection program was passed by the Virginia Legislature and signed into law.  Under the new law, a motor vehicle will not be subject to emissions inspection until it is four years old or older.  The new law acknowledges the relatively minimal environmental impact of the vehicles targeted for this exemption and that it is senseless to test newer vehicles, the results of which demonstrate no significant air quality benefits.
