SEMA Successful in Amending Ontario, Canada Performance Equipment Bill

Earlier this year, the Ontario, Canada Ministry of Transportation declared Bill 241 officially dead.  The bill sought to ban certain automotive parts, substances and equipment that the Ministry claimed are used in street racing.  The bill was primarily directed at equipment that boosts engine performance.   Recently, the measure was reintroduced as Bill 20.  Heeding the recommendations of SEMA, the Ministry amended the provisions of principal concern.  Section 172.2 has been redrafted to focus specifically on the operation of vehicles equipped with nitrous oxide systems.   SEMA persuaded the Canadian authorities to allow nitrous systems if disconnected while the vehicle was being operated on public roadways.
