Nebraska Single Plate Bill Eligible for Reconsideration In 2020

Legislation (L.B. 38) requiring the issuance of only a single, rear-mounted license plate for all motor vehicles failed to pass before the Nebraska legislature adjourned for 2019.

In 2016, Nebraska passed legislation allowing owners of vehicles not originally equipped with a front bracket to request a single license plate for a $100 annual fee.

If passed, L.B. 38 would have brought Nebraska in line with other states that have moved to a single plate requirement and relieved vehicle owners of the burden of having to create mounting holes on their bumpers.

By rule, this bill is eligible to be reconsidered during next year’s legislative session.

Thank you to those who voiced support for this bill.
