Iowa Bill to Reduce Registration Fee for Limited-Use Older Motor Vehicles Fails to Gain Approval

SAN-supported legislation to allow any vehicle that is at least 25-years old and used only for exhibition, entertainment or educational purposes to be registered for an annual  $5 fee was not given consideration by the Iowa House Transportation Committee before the legislature adjourned for the year.  Under current law, a motor vehicle which is 25 years old or older may be registered as an antique vehicle upon payment of the regular annual registration fee for the vehicle.  Certain vehicles that are 25 years old or older and used only for exhibition, entertainment, or educational purposes may be registered as "limited use" vehicles, subject to a registration fee of $40 for a two-year period.  If enacted, this measure would have continued to allow owners the option to register an antique motor vehicle for unlimited travel upon payment of the regular registration fee.

Thank you to all who participated in supporting the bill.
